Passivation

Passivation is a chemical treatment process by which an electrochemical condition of “passivity” is obtained on the surface of metal alloys. Stainless steel surfaces are rendered passive by the formation of a chromium oxide surface film, which forms on the outermost surface of the metal acting as “barrier” to corrosion. The passive layer is achieved through chemical treatment, which removes foreign inclusions and reactive metal ions. This chemical treatment enhances the effective concentration of chromium, nickel and molybdenum at the surface of the metal phase. The thickness and stability of the passive layer is critical to system longevity and product purity.

Our proprietary process, PUREPASS® Passivation is the most effective passivating treatment. It involves using citric acid (eco-friendly) coupled with chelants (chemicals that enhance the solubility of scales and other contaminants) and other proprietary additives to enhance the spontaneous formation of the protective passive layer to resist corrosion. We also offer passivation using phosphoric and nitric acid.

Purepass Services Inc.will mobilize to your facility with our highly trained staff providing complete turnkey services delivering quality chemical cleaning and passivation to installed systems: pre-operational, pre-commissioning of new construction, post modification, preventative maintenance and shutdowns. We also provide in shop passivation at our facility in Hamilton, Ontario. Here we can process a wide range of parts from small components and fittings to process piping and mobile tanks.

We stand behind our projects and support our results with industry defining certification documentation. Upon completion of each job, we will provide you with a quality GMP documentation package for your systems and equipment maintenance records.
